In 2017 artist Ruth Collett sculpted a life-sized bust of their family dog Bert, as a gift for her husband's 40th birthday.
By taking measurements and references from photos, Ruth first sculpted the dog in clay. From there she covered the clay in resin to create a mould into which she poured plaster to cast the piece. Ruth finished the bust by painting and mounting on a stand.
She posted some photos of the finished dog bust on instagram and the response was incredible.
Ruth is now commissioned by pet lovers all over the world to sculpt pet portraits of their beloved dog or cat.
And for those looking for something a little different, the mounted and framed hand painted noses make perfect gifts.
“I’m so glad I came across Ruth to make a unique personal birthday gift for my girlfriend which she adores! The likeness of her dog is incredible - such a talent!
Ruth was constantly keeping me updated along the way and was always willing to accept suggestions until I was satisfied.
Boyfriend brownie points for me - thanks Ruth!”

It looked just like him and the finish was perfect... it was lovely to see the process on the cards too. The messages that you wrote were charming too, thank you, it made it extra special.”
